I am in Berlin this weekend. Friday and Sunday I will be in Berlin hanging with some good friends including Miro Pajic and Petra Flurr. On Saturday I take the train to Magdeburg which is about an hour away. I will be performing at the huge Junimond Festival! It’s a club convention where venue owners from around Europe come to talk about taxes, lighting, sound systems and more. Most importantly they throw a huge event. This year there are 19 areas and 61 DJs/Live Acts! I will be performing some new tracks including my recent collaboration with Haujobb The Dancer (link).
“Das Line up wird wieder super bunt und interessant, die Clubs und Showcases auch mal ausgefallen und in jedem Fall hör- und tanzbar. Nach jetzigem Stand werden sich die Clubs auf 15 Floors vorstellen.” – Junimond Festival

I received clearance to repost the DJ Set I did for DI.FM Digitally Imported and Freitag Unlimited on Mixcloud (link) with my other sets. If you don’t already know Freitag is a great label London based record label. I recently remixed a track by Dead Sound for them and it was released on Vinyl. If you don’t know DI.FM just go there now and you can listen to a large selection of electronic music streaming 24/7. It’s very popular in the USA. Since this set wasn’t played live specifically for a crowd I was able to play some more obscure and unique items. Enjoy!

The extended interview I (The Horrorist) did at the Rockerill Festival in Belgium is now online (link) at Reflections of Darkness. I talk candidly about pretty much everything including EBM, New Beat, the 80s, performing live, love, drugs, New York and much more.
“she said: “Let me hear your music” and she did an amazing thing. When she heard my early music, which was all about “I hate this” and “I’m gonna kill you”, she said: “Oliver, this is all about yourself! You were singing about yourself. You hate yourself and you’re singing about it!”

This weekend I performed at the infamous Rockerill Festival in Charleroi, Belgium. Charleroi is about 40 minutes from Brussels. People from Belgium call it their version of Detroit. It is a very industrial looking city with huge factories and crumbling buildings. I was lucky to be picked up from the airport by two of the artists that were performing: Elzo Durt & Singularity (Raul Borges). To my great joy Front 242 was playing on the car ride. Being in Belgium that was exactly the right start to what would be an incredible weekend.
Rockerfill takes place in massive abandoned factory complex. It’s several super sized rooms with very high ceilings made of concrete and steel. When I arrived DjPute-Acier was playing. He did an incredible EBM/Techno set. The link to that set is below. Be sure to take a listen to it and I noticed that Download is enabled to grab it while you can. The sound system was sharp and clear and was slightly echoing off the massive room’s walls. I had some good friends show up including Ethan Fawkes and Lady Lupa. Downstairs metal bands performed in a packed room with balconies surrounding it. I could barely squeeze over the edge to see down at the madness. I was pretty shocked when I was told that was the stage I would be playing on!
I took the stage and soon after mind stopped thinking about my day job, love life, Tiffy, NYC, the spring flowers. Those images disappeared and off I went screaming in the night. At one point I stepped into the crowd and a was lifted into the air. For about five minutes I was tossed around dropped, picked up again and somehow ended up back on stage mic and light in hand wholly unbruised. The night went long into the next day. At 44 years old I crowd surfed for the first time and yet that probably wasn’t even the close to the most interesting thing I did that weekend. Until next time Belgium!

I performed in Zwickau, Germany on March 15, 2014 at Club Seilerstrasse. The event was called Home Sick 2. This was the first of 4 live shows I would do in a week where I would stay in the Leipzig area. To be honest so much has happened and I’ve had so little sleep since then it’s hard to remember all the details of this extreme evening. After working most of the day on Friday I flew off to Leipzig. It’s a overnight flight and for the first part of the trip I was put in the Westin. The hotel was really nice with a great pool, bar and lobby. I managed to get a few hours sleep and then was picked up for the hour drive to Zwickau. East German hard techno events are great. People are there to go insane. No one stops moving all night and the next day. Anyone who isn’t dancing like a freak is DJing or MCing. I have a great video of everyone on stage taking turns screaming assorted things all through the early morning. There’s a guy named Tom from Amplidudez who is the ring leader of this screaming. I played a few new tracks I did the week earlier. Of course there’s more to he story but you’re going to have to come in person to one of my shows and attach yourself to me to ever know the truth. Stay tuned for photos, videos and words from the Lodz (Poland), Sky Club Leipzig and Laucha shows! To see the full photo set: click here

The Horrorist DJ Set – March 8, 2014 – NYC, USA at Defcon by Thingstocome on Mixcloud
Last weekend I did a DJ Set at Defcon. Defcon is run by D.J. Stalagmike. There are three things that make Defcon special. First, it’s a true old school EBM event. You won’t hear cybergoth here. Mike has very good taste playing New Beat, Scarecrow and things like that. Second, Defcon takes place in one of the oldest running classic venues: The Pyramid. The Pyramid has been around since the 1979 and was host to some of the best drag/gay parties throughout the 80s. Finally, Mike has managed to make this an every Saturday event for a long time. To create a long running classic EBM event in North America is something to be noted. I was very pleased to be asked to play there. I posted my mix below for you to hear in full! As I played music I was screaming and sweating quite a bit. A tradition at Defcon is apparently drinking something called Black Haus. I did my best not to vomit with each shot. This stuff really tastes like paint thinner. Dj Andi did two amazing sets. She runs the Synthicide night and for someone in her 20s blows my mind with her obscure 80s music knowledge. Mike DJed for the rest of the night. Several times I had to run to the DJ booth to find out what he was playing. I couldn’t stop dancing to either of their sets. I had a chance to meet Jean Lorenzo (who was sporting a nice Petra Flurr T-Shirt) who records some nice hardware only synth/gothpop under the name Silent Em. I also met with old friends Reade Truth and Kreestof. In the late 80s and early 90s there was no place greater for music than NYC. Lately it’s cool and fun factor has really been on the rise. Heimat!
“The Pyramid Club is a nightclub in the East Village of Manhattan, New York City. After opening in 1979, the Pyramid helped define the East Village drag and gay scenes of the 1980s. The club is located at 101 Avenue A in Manhattan.” – Wikipedia

Last weekend I performed in Bologna and Naples, Italy. You can find my Bologna photos and report on a post right before this one. Needless to say I arrived in Naples with very little sleep. I’ve performed often in Northern Italy around Milan and on the coast in Rimini. I also performed in Malta but never southern Italy so I was really looking forward to see what “Napoli” was like. Naples is near Rome on the Tyrrhenian Sea. On the drive from the airport I quickly realized this was an amazing place. It has that Mediterranean look with crowded one or two story white or pink brick buildings. It’s surrounded by mountains and volcanos. It is a very very crowded city. Car roundabouts are an amazing thing to see here. This is a place like NYC where you have to have driven there years to know how to force your way through traffic. Packs of school kids run all over the place. Stray dogs run around. I got to my hotel room and crashed for five hours. There was a DJ named Milo from Florence and he had his crew with him. They were also staying in my hotel and took me to get some pizza. Naples is famous for pizza and it stood up to it’s reputation. Rested and fed I did a soundcheck at the Barcode nightclub. After performing at the pool the night before I was happy to see a proper stage and a killer sound system. The event was called Hardfactory. This isn’t normally a “goth” event but that night the dress code was all black (yeah!!). I performed a few new songs that no one has heard yet. I was very pleased to hear them loudly and the reaction lets me know your going to like these too. After the show there was an official afterparty. I dropped my equipment at the hotel, changed out of my now two show smelling outfit and off I went. As the sun came up we drove along the coast heading to the event. My work was done and it felt great just to be there. When I arrived I got that “never going to happen in the USA” feeling. Everyone was dancing and well here’s where the credits roll because if you weren’t there you just not going to know what happened. I can’t wait to return.
“HARDFACTORY is proud to announce From NY (USA) – Unica data del Tour Europeo! First Time in Naples THE HORRORIST (Live!).” – Hardfactoty
