Here’s one turntable even more classic than the Technics SL-1200. Dieter Rams was the lead designer for the German company Braun. Some say Apple’s Johnathan Ives is heavily inspired by Rams. Check out this Gizmodo article: 1960s Braun Products Hold the Secrets to Apple’s Future link. According to Wikipedia the SK5 was nicknamed Snow White’s Coffin. That’s enough right there to make me want one in my living room. The photos you see here are from an SK5 on ebay right now with a Buy It Now price of $900.

“Rams once explained his design approach in the phrase “Weniger, aber besser” which freely translates as “Less, but better”. Many of his designs — coffee makers, calculators, radios, audio/visual equipment, consumer appliances and office products — have found a permanent home at many museums over the world, including MoMA in New York. For nearly 30 years Dieter Rams served as head of design for Braun A.G. until his retirement in 1998.” – Wikipedia
