There is a new Llamasoft aka Jeff Minter game out! Five a Day, like all the other Minter games I mention on this blog is a psychedelic arcade gameplay winner. Jeff is on a massive success streak with iOS (and iCade). Just get the game. It’s a perfect way to rest your ears in between long studio sessions. If you want a long extended review of the game check out this one over at Kill Screen: click here. Jeff if you ever read this you can use any of my music in your games!
“Minter has developed a style of high kitsch, in which the most stupid things are changed into the extraordinary.” – Kill Switch
Every time Jeff Minter of Llamasoft releases an iOS game I post about here. I follow what he does like I did a teenager following Front 242. Forget this weeks Midway Classics release. If you want a better than arcade experience buy an iCase and download all Minter’s games. Gridrunner is one of his classics now repurposed for the iPad. It’s a very loud arcade LSD trip. Must have for those who know!
“Here’s another slick shooter from the developer who is rapidly gaining a reputation as the king of retro on iOS. Gridrunner was a much-loved and popular game on the Commodore Vic-20 and Commodore 64 back in 1982. Here the game is reimagined by its original author in the style of an early 1980s coin-op arcade machine. Of course this is a Minotaur Project game, so we ignore the limitations of such old hardware, borrowing just the style but presenting a slick, modern shooter that is a joy to play on iOS.” – minotaurproject.co.uk
Another Jeff Minter Llamasoft game means another awesome retro glitch physcadelic game. Caverns of Minos has you on a rescue mission. Great controls and weird as ever. If you have an iPad get this.
“I have been following Llamasoft since playing Llamatron on my Atari ST. Caverns of Minos is easily their best iOS game yet. Smooth graphics, crazy sound effects, excellent controls, and fun game play.” – Eric Parent
