Ableton Live 9 and Push Released

My favorite piece of software on the planet as been updated today. Ableton Live 9 is now available. I’ve found Live to be extremely stable especially compared to Cubase from which I was using previously. In fact on my laptop machine which I keep a bare bones set up for my live show I’ve never had a crash. Session View is a true song writers dream and I think the new audio to MIDI feature will also be wonderful. It is silly to fall in love with software and argue for it on forums but when you stare at it all day and it helps you why not. Right now I am personally less interested in Push. I will check it out tonight at the Tekserve event (link).

Roland SH3 CV Modification

Earlier this week I did a post about a band a stumbled across called Kline Coma Xero (read). I decided to give the man behind the band, Tony Williams an old school phone call. We did chat for a while and I discovered he also owns a Roland SH3 and recently modified it to work with CV/Gate. I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while and he promised to post a video showing the mod so here it is above. The SH3 is a really nice sounding synth because it has a proper Moog filter in it (among other things). Moog sued Roland and in response Roland created the SH3-A which changed the filter design.

“A video overview of my Roland SH-3 which I modified using the KENTON SH-3a CV/Gate/Filter mod. I intentionally left off the filter mod due to the fact that the SH-3a has a different filter than the SH-3.” – Tony Williams

Noys Toise

Tanner Galvin’s NOYS TOISE from Craig Mederios on Vimeo.

Take a look at Tanner Galvin’s Noys Toise circuit bent musical instruments. Very pretty and the documentary above shows a guy into what he’s doing.

“Tanner Galvin’s Noys Toise is a short documentary about Tanner Galvin, a Portland artist who creates custom musical instruments out of old electronic toys and instruments in a process known as circuit bending.” – Laughing Squid
