Peter Murphy VS Brendan Perry

It’s always interesting and a bit funny when people go at it in public. Apparently Brendan Perry of Dead Can Dance thought Peter Murphy (Bauhaus) wasted his time regarding an ill-fated tour they were planning together.

“The truth of the matter is that PM [Peter Murphy] wasted months of my time, energy and effort. It was he, after all, who invited me to tour with him and then reneged on our agreement not once, not twice but three times… can you imagine my frustration? … I would not have minded so much if he had shown some remorse by way of an apology, this would have been the very least I could expect from such an honorable and ‘spiritual’ man. Right? Well wrong… When I last wrote to him to enquire how he was and what the problem was, he basically told me to mind my own business… Cuckoo!” “The guy has too many albeit mysterious health issues to deal with and, to be honest, he’s a sandwich short of a picnic.” – Brendan Perry

And the response…

This reminds me a little of when techno legends Frankie Bones and Joey Beltram fought it out on various forums for a few months. Here’s my Wire to the Ear tip: keep your musician mystery alive by keeping these types of matters a private conversation.

  1. I have no idea what either of them gain by airing out in public like that. It almost takes fans away from enjoying their music for a bit which (IMHO) is a crime. Poor taste on both their parts…

  2. yeh public talk like that deffo ruins the mystique – I do have to say I’m kinda pleasantly amused by the ‘real Irish fucker I can be’ haha.

I thought Brendan Perry was of Irish stock also, or is that Peter Murphy saying he is ‘more Irish’ or something? o_O

    anywayz definitely entertaining

  3. At least Peter’s message was entertaining to read. Brendan just comes off as a wet blanket. Who knows maybe this is all an attempt to bring the famous brit pop infighting into the goth world. In a cage fight my moneys on Murphy, “mysterious health issues” and all…

  4. somehow brendan seems to think he’s in the same category as murphy, which in itself is hilarious. I havent listened to DCD since a bad trip in some girls attic in 93. Bauhaus was on my speakers 2 hours ago.

    1. Really? Even as a Peter Murphy fan (seen him in concert many times) I would still put Brendan Perry miles beyond him musically. Peter is pretty one dimensional with exception of Dusk (which, of course, tried to sound like DCD)

    2. Bauhaus is third rate entertainment compared to DCD. Bauhaus is for the masses, DCD is not.
