Every Pop Song is the same 4 Chords

Considering this video from Australian comedy band Axis of Awesome has almost 5 million views most of you have probably seen this. For those musicians who haven’t you have to admit is pretty interesting. It surely explains why everything on the radio sounds the same.

  1. So, take a group of items, oversimplify the differences and emphasize the similarities and the items appear more similar.

That’s probably why this act looks so much like the other guy’s that they stole the idea from.

All these guys prove is that shitty top 40 cover bands make everything sound like crap. Why is that 40 year old guy singing Cheryl Crowe songs? Can they get The Horrorist in here instead next Saturday?

  2. Did not see that one before… have to send it to my girlfriend… she probably likes 85 % of those songs =D
    Just great.

  3. This is what I keep saying: most music wanting to please or fill in somewhere starts to sound, and in most cases IS the same. Sure there are some differences, but it’s mostly the same brew with with a varying amount of spices. But as always the rule is underlined by its exceptions.

  4. It’s called the circle of fifths – look it up. Most well written music of the 20th century follows the circle of fifths.

  5. That was amusing. Some people should not take everything in life seriously, this includes both the extremes – “top40 music is the same!” and “oversimplified!”
Sense of humour. Do you have it?
