The Secret Powers of Time

There are a lot of great points in this video that will trigger you take some time and think. New York has extreme seasons and I can attest it definitely makes me notice the passing of time and therefore makes me work harder. Last week my mother’s cat and long time friend Asriel passed away. She was 14 years old. Yesterday I bought an iPad. I pulled up a few photos of Asriel on the device. The past, present and future collide.

“Professor Philip Zimbardo conveys how our individual perspectives of time affect our work, health and well-being. Time influences who we are as a person, how we view relationships and how we act in the world.” – theRSAorg

  1. Eye-opening, to be sure, but it still begs the question “How do we deal with this in a practical way?” If we agree that Present/Hedonistic mentality is a recipe for things like lacks of social skills, vice addictions and underage/unplanned pregnancies (which I think most of us can agree are events and conditions that negatively impact not only individuals, but others around these individuals as well), what are some actions that can be taken to help shift the aforementioned Time Perspective into Future Oriented, in your opinion? What kinds of exercises so far prove out to be effective?

In the mean time, thank you very much for creating and posting this video. It has been truly educational.
