Hobnox - Audiotool

Just a few years ago if you wanted to play with two Roland TB-303’s a TR-909 and seven Boss Pedals you would have needed about $4000, a bunch of batteries, electric outlets and a mixer. Today all you need to do is click here:

It wont be long before our professional music software applications are all completely online. Maybe we will rent each use out or pay yearly. You will always have the latest version. You can save and access your songs anywhere there is internet access (which will be everywhere!). You can have your friends log-in and work on music with you. You can pay Trent Reznor $10,000 to fix the mix in your song ($20,000 to add a vocal verse). Export options include: MP3, WAV and Direct to MySpace. Bring it on!

  1. It’s a fun little browser app, to be sure, but I’m doubtful that web apps will replace offline music software any time soon. I know lots of people who don’t even let their music computer connect to the Internet at all, let alone consider moving all of their musical needs to the net. There was a pretty interesting article on Slate just this morning about the down sides of networks apps:

  2. Hi Steve. I think maybe the only argument is “how long”. I think all apps will eventually be 100% online. But Ill admit my life is already mostly online… :)

  3. @Oliver: thanks for the post about the tool. We’ll update within the next weeks and hopefully have the export feature, timeline and arrangement ready soon too. It’s just the beginning, there is more to come. Thanks.

  5. Hi Oliver, just a quick note that we just rolled out an update of the Hobnox Audiotool. As promised the TR808 is now online, along with two new stompboxes (Compressor and Bitcrusher) and some enhanced functions. Saving is still not possible yet, we’re working hard to make it happen for the next update.
